Complete site rework...

story in

At the dev meeting today me and Lordrich decided:

  • A drupal 6 (the next, major version of the software we are using for qwp) upgrade is essential.
  • Migrating our existing data over would be very difficult indeed - already tried this and it just ends up a mess.
  • Therefore, we will rebuild the site from scratch, more nearly and knowing what we know now.

Front page problems

story in

Hey there, due to some errant clicks we managed to make the front page not visible to users who aren’t logged in. Whoops! This should be resolved now. If you have any unexpected problems with the site, feel free to email one of us - support email address coming soon.

Site tour

Qvox.org is a very big site, and there’s lots to do. This can be confusing for new members! Here’s a rough guide to what’s in each site section.

Groups
Groups are the guts of the site. Groups are like little subsites. You can set these up for any groups you’re part of, and people can use it as a webpage, upload things for other members and so on. More on this later! Most content types can be posted into groups.

Queer Web Project Handbook

This book is a guide to using all the services on the QWP.

New domain name!

story in

Please note we have now switched over to our lovely new domain name: http://qvox.org . The old domain name will still work for a while but probably not as well.

Please update your bookmarks!

Love, QWP.

Group content not showing up when logged out fixed!

We accidentally set all new group content to private, so you could only see it when logged in. Then we didn’t notice until now because the admin can see everything anyway! Anyway, this is fixed now, we never meant to hide content unless people specifically chose to. All your content should show up, unless you uncheck the “public” box in the group section on the submission form.

Userpics are now enabled!

You can now add a userpic to your blog and forum posts. Go to my account and edit, and add a 100x100px image.

Enjoy!

New meeting and work structure

story in

We’ve decided to have a reorganise of QWP meetings.

Both our process meetings and development meetings are once a month, and the weeks in between will have work evenings for those who can come.

  • First Wednesday of the month is now the process meeting. This is a non-technical meeting for anyone with a passing interest in the project who wants to find out what’s going on, get involved, get a job to do, etc! There are jobs to do both on and offline, technical and non technical, so don’t be afraid and come along!

Mission Statement

The Queer Web Project aims to make a friendly, welcoming community, enabling communication and information sharing across a global community of queers, building bridges between disparate queer communities. We aim to tie together a number of unsatisfactory, unrelated web technologies the queer community currently uses in the absence of something specifically for us.

What we aim to provide

story in

Here are some of the services the Queer Web project wishes to offer.

Queer Groupware

Groupware refers to related, integrated technology used in tandem for a specific purpose. Yahoo groups is currently used by a lot of queer groups: and combines email lists, file uploads and a shared calendar. Other groups use social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace to publicize their group
